CONGRATULATIONS LEE AND VICKY!

Many congrats and all best wishes to Lee and Vicky on the birth of their daughter Amy Lea on 9th October 2009. Amy weighed in at a healthy 7lb7oz, so sounds to me as though she's more of a batsman. Doesn't take after her father then!

Chan 23 and J Palmer 28. Tghe pick of the de l'Oust bowlers being Wayne Ackroyde with 4 -4 and matt Powell with 4 - 28; thesy were well supported by Tim harrington 1-6 and Alan Cook 1-10.

In reply d l'Oust scored 82 for 2 from 20 overs for a victory that was never in doubt; top scorer was Dave Walton with 41 not out, supported by Jon Ward (17) and Neal Powell (10 not out)

Our thanks to CBCC for a good game played in a great spirit throughout, and to their good ladies for an excellent tea.

(don't blame me for this - I'm only typing what was written. It may be worth recording that this was sent in at 11.00pm!)

So, my fine band of warriers, it just remains for me to say that during the close season I want you all to treat your body as a temple. I want you all to come back next season leaner and meaner, fitter and faster than ever; ready to defeat any team that would dare to challenge us on the cricket field of combat - in particular des Ormes!

So from now on alcohol is banned, sex is banned and everyone is to take up jogging and swimming to stay in shape.

Alors, mes amis. bon courage et a bientot...................

(NURSE! Fetch the screens please)

The great and good gathered at the Stade Pierre Guého in Sérent for a charity match to raise funds for French Cancer Charities.

Jim Rowlands had pledged half of moneys received from his gig the previous evening at Le Dragon bar in Roc St. André: a big thank you Jim for a magnificent start of 65 euros.

We all enjoyed a (not too serious) game of cricket, won by DLO, and then enjoyed drinks and a BBQ and a raffle was held, with club members donating prizes.

To date we have raised euros 327,10. A big thank you to everyone who attended, as well as donations from those who couldn't make it..

Match Report 5th July 2009

CENTRAL BRITTANY CRICKET CLUB vs. CLUB CRICKET de L'OUST

(Siddalls Cup - 35 overs per innings)

Match Summary

Central Brittany Cricket Club: 119 all out off 33.2 overs

Club Cricket de L'Oust: 74 all out off 30.4 overs

CBCC WON BY 45 RUNS

Weather: Fine but windy

Les Scoops reports:-

DLO won the toss and decided to field.

CBCC put out their strongest team, which game them an impressive batting and bowling line-up for this important cup match, while DLO were a little under strength, missing 2 of their regular players.

As in their recent matches, DLO's accurate bowling annd keen fielding made it difficult for CBCC to score runs, and at the half-way stage of their innings they had only managed to score 71 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. With their remaining wickets falling regularly they were all out for 119 in the 34th over. This was an excellent performance from DLO to restrict a strong batting lineup to just 3.5 runs per over.

Pick of the bowling was Keith Nicholls with 2 for 11, assisted by Matt Powell 2 for 15, Jon Ward 2 for 23 and Alan Cook with 2 for 37.

DLO made a solid start in reply, and after 14 overs were 51 for 2, well on target to make the 120 runs required to win. But with 2 bowling changes, DLO collapsed to 74 all out. the last 8 wickets falling tor 23 runs. The batsmen could not cope with the accuracy of the returning Stuart Nicholas, who bowled 5 overs and took 5 wickets for 3 runs. Also Doug Amoss took 2 for 9, and Lee Snelling 2 for 13.

This gave CBCC victory by 45 runs.

This was the first defeat for DLO in 7 matches, but in the end it was a well-deserved win for CBCC who just proved too strong for DLO on this occasion.

A big thanks to the CBCC ladies for their excellent tea.

Match Report 28th June 2009

CLUB CRICKET de L'OUST vs CENTRAL BRITTANY CRICKET CLUB

(Jack Thompson Memorial trophy 20/20 Match)

Match Summary

Central Brittany : 77 all out off 20 overs

Club Cricket de l'Oust : 78 for 4 off 16 overs

CLUB CRICKET DE L'OUST WON BY 6 WICKETS

Weather : Hot and sunny

This game was the first one ever played at Josselin, and our thanks are due to the Josselin Mairie for permission to use the pitch.

The game was played in memory of Jack Thompson, one of de l'Oust's founder members, who very sadly passed away last year. However, we were delighted to welcome Jack's wife Maree as our guest of honour for the day. There was a very good turnout in support of Jack by many of his friends, which made for a great atmosphere.

We played a 20/20 match for the Jack Thompson Memorial Trophy, which both teams had paid towards, and which will hopefully become an annual challenge between the two teams.

De l'Oust won the toss and put CBCC into bat. They made a very lively start and after just 4 overs had scored 34 runs; but again with the DLO fielders and bowlers playing with great accuracy CBCC were all out for 77 in their final over.

Pick of the bowlers were Tim Harrington with 3 for 24, skipper Matt Powell with 2 for 11 and Alan Cook with 2 for 18. However the star bowler was Jack's brother Ron who only bowled 4 balls but took 2 wickets for just one run to finish off the CBCC innings. A really great effort - only Lee Snelling (18) and Stuart Nicholls (25) reached double figures for the visitors.

In reply DLO scored 38 in 7 overs before the first wicket fell. 3 more wickets fell, but with the score on 60 for 4 matt Powell and Alan Cook guided DLO to a comfortable victory with an 18 run partnership.

All 6 DLO batsmen contributed, with Tim Harrington top scoring on 17 Matt Powell scoring 15* and Jon Ward 10.

Our thanks to CBCC for an excellent game played in a great spirit; a wonderful tribute to Jack Thompson.

We must also offer a huge debt of thanks to Trudie, Kev, Sophie and Alex for all their work in the buvette, as well as Dave Coe, Pierrot and Gaetan for running the barbeque, and all the other wives and friends who contributed to a great day out. THANKS!

CLUB CRICKET de l'OUST vs NANTES CC

Match Summary

NANTES: 87 all out off 33 overs

Club Cricket de l'Oust: 88 for 7 off 28.5 overs

CLUB CRICKET DE l'OUST WON BY 3 WICKETS

Weather: Sunny, cloudy at times.

De l'Oust welcomed Nantes to Sérent for the first time for a challenge match of 35 overs per side.

De l'Oust won the toss and put Nantes in to bat, and with wickets tumbling at regular intervals, Nantes found themselves on 47 for 9 after just 22 overs.

It was left to Scoopman Alan Cook who clean bowled the last batsman to restrict Nantes to a total of 87 runs. At least this target gave the Nantes bowlers something to defend.

The pick of the de l'Oust bowlers were:-

Alan Cook 5 overs 3 wickets for 7 runs

Kevin Williams 2 overs 2 wickets for 10 runs

Ron Thompson 2 overs 2 wickets for 4 runs.

De l'Oust changed the order of their batting line-up and found themselves 3 wickets down for just 10 runs chasing a target of 88 to win.; but with skipper Matt Powell (14), Lee Snelling (23) and star batsman Dave Walton scoring an unbeaten 26 they reached their target with 6 overs to spare, to win by 3 wickets.

A great team effort by all the de l'Oust players, who contributed to an entertaining game played in a warm and friendly spirit; and we look forward to visiting Nantes later in the year.

This win gives Club Cricket de l'Oust 5 consecutive wins - possibly a club record! (definitely a club record - Ed.)

Our thanks to Trudie, Jean and Michelle for a lovely tea enjoyed by all.

CLUB CRICKET de l'OUST vs CENTRAL BRITTANY CC

Match Summary

Club Cricket de l'Oust: 75 all out off 21.1 overs

Central Brittany CC: 67 all out off 21.1 overs

CLUB CRICKET DE L'OUST WON BY 8 RUNS

Having endured foul wet weather conditions while preparing the pitch and new pavilion, it was a relief that the sun arrived with CBCC and the only weather we had to contend with was the wind. In the warm-up match: the wind beat Tariq's tent 1 - 0.

De l'Oust won the toss and decided to bat and progressed to 12 in 6 overs before losing their first wicket. From then on wickets fell at regular intervals, and only Matt Powell was able to get hold of the bowling, scoring 29 including 1 four and 3 sixes. Second highest scorer was extras with 26! The innings finally ended on 75 from 21.1 overs. Best bowler was Lee Snelling with 4 for 9 off 5.1 overs

Despite an excellent opening spell of bowling from Tim Harrington, CCBC managed to progress to 16 off 7 overs before losing their first wicket. Thanks mainly to Mallan (14) and Chad (12) they reached 53 for 4 and looked odds-on favourites to take the win. Then Rafiq Kouloo (3 for 26) and Jon Ward (4 for 6) got amongst the wickets and CBCC were finally all out for 67, nine runs short of their target. Worthy of note were 2 excellent catches by Tim Harrington in the deep and Rafiq's sharp catch to dismiss Turner. Spookily, CBCC also batted for 21.1 overs, but only accumulated 12 extras.

This win gives de l'Oust 15 points in the Siddalls Cup competition, and CBCC get 7. Everything to play for in the return match on July 5th.

Thanks are due to Trudie for providing her usual excellent tea. Trifles? Good grief!

LE MOULIN vs. CLUB CRICKET de L'OUST 31st MAY 2009

Match Summary

Le Moulin: 71 all out off 23.2 overs

Club Cricket de l'Oust: T 76 - 3 off 12.2 overs

DE L'OUST WON BY 7 WICKETS

On a sunny but windy day le Moulin won the toss and elected to bat. Tight bowling by Messrs Powell and Kouloo restricted the Moulin openers to 8 runs in the first 6 overs before first change bowler Lee Snelling got in amongst the wickets with his usual brand of accurate bowling. Wickets then fell regularly over the next 8 overs and Moulin were reduced to 28 - 6 after 14 overs. T.Childe (25) and Harris (17) then formed a useful partnership and took the score to 60 in 6 overs before Childe fell to a mystery ball from Jon Ward. Moulin did not last long after that partnership was broken and finally finished all out for 71 after 24 overs, with Rafiq Kouloo returning to mop up the tail. Champagne moment was Kevin Williams' sharp reaction to catch G Childe off the bowling of Scoop Cook. They'll both tell you about it if you ask! Best bowling was Lee Snelling with 3 for 18 off 4 overs, assisted by Jon Ward with 3 for 21 off 7 and Rafiq Louloo with 2 for 12 off 4.2.

De l'Oust's reply got off to an inauspicious start when Jon Ward contrived to run himself out in the second over, but by the time Rafiq Kouloo was caught behind for 4 in the 10th over hard-hitting Dave Walton had taken the score to 58 and de l'Oust were almost there. Dave was finally out for 45 in the 12th over having hit 3 fours and 4 sixes. Matt Powell came in at no. 4 and scored a quick 14 and, with Lee Snelling, saw de l'Oust home by 7 wickets in the 13th over.

As ever, it was a pleasure to visit le Moulin, not least to sample their tea! Thank you ladies for that, and lads for a game played in an excellent spirit. We look forward to the return.

Central Brittany were restricted to 70 runs all out in just 21 overs with only C Barnes (28 runs) and V Turner (10 runs) making worthwhile contributions.

There was a notable bowling performance from skipper Matt Powell who bowled 6 overs with 1 maiden and conceding just 6 runs for 5 wickets. This was the best bowling performance of the season so far. He was well supported by Jon Ward (3 overs, 1 maiden, 1 for 5) and Tim Harrington (7 overs, 1 for 17). A champagne moment occured when Ant 'Forrest' Lovell took his first wicket for the club. In the field your correspondent, Alan Cook, took 2 brilliant, one-handed catches at slip.

In reply, de l'Oust were always in control and scored 75 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in 15 overs. Openers Dave Walton and Jon Ward gave the perfect start with a stand of 69 runs, Jon Ward being bowled for 20 runs and Dave Walton not ou for 42 runs.

C Barnes was Central Brittany's best bowler with 2 wickets for 22 from 4 overs.

Modesty forbids my mentioning the real names of winning team Wilson, Keppel and Betty .... the most important thing is that the evening raised Euros 252.49 for Dave Walton to give to the cancer charities of his choice.

A big 'thank you' is therefore due to everyone who came and support this event, particularly Kevin, Trudie and Sophie who not only put on their usual fantastic spread, but also devised a fiendish set of questions. (But not fiendish enough - see above!)

Don't forget our charity cricket match on Sunday, 14th June at Sérent - all welcome. More about this on our 'Fixtures and Events' page.

Date of the next quiz will be announced soon .... keep watching the website!
